Years ago did some field work at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, spending some time on Barro Colorado Island in the middle of Gatun Lake. You have to be in the Zone for 30 days to get a powerboat license and I was never there that long in one stretch. So I got to canoe across to get where I needed to be. Not bad but of course you had to be wary of those great big boats. I suppose if you wanted to do the length you could; it's only 50 miles or so. You'd have to portage the locks.
