Hi Y'all

A paddling buddy who is (unaccountably) not on this list recently bought a
snazzy German collapsible fishing rod, which he wants to use from his kayak.
He has searched for ads selling a fishing rod holder suitable for the deck of
a kayak, but without success. Surely one of this august electronic assemblage
has the information that will make my friend happy!

   I'm counting on you guys!

      Thanks

            Bob Volin

Try this link http://www.kayakfishing.com/index.html Heaps on fishing, but
mainly from S.O.T's. I use a loop of bungie attached to the hip pads of my
sea kayak. It slips over the reel with the butt of the rod jammed against
my leg. By angling the rod towards the rear side of the coaming, you can
still wear a spray skirt (the rod pokes out of one side angled back to allow
paddling if needed). Never lost a rod and still manage to grab it in time
to strike. Beats the painful experience of drilling more holes in the
kayak!

Cheers
Grant

For the last ten to twelve years or so I have been using a very simple and
economical arrangement for a fishing rod holder on my kayak. It consists of
about a twelve inch length of PVC pipe tilted at a slight angle and glassed
into a flat Plexiglas base. I glued some neoprene rubber to the bottom of the
base so it would not wiggle around or scratch the fiberglass surface of my
boat. This is then held to the boat with the deck bunjies. I usually carry my
rod and holder in the bunjies behind the cockpit, but it could just as easily
go in front.
Just as an additional precaution I have about a three foot length of cord
fastened to the butt of my rod with a small clip on the other end which is
then hooked to the boat. This is to make sure that I don't lose my rod and
reel in a mishap. I have never actually needed it, but it makes me feel a
whole lot better knowing that it is in place.

As a general rule, I would not sit in the kayak if drilling holes in the
deck.
