My apologies to all. A virus that was not picked up by my virus protection program (McAfee) spewed out a number of infected emails before I recognized what was happening and stopped it. Ralph Diaz' Norton AntiVirus identified it as "W32.Bqadtrans.13312_at_mm". Norton describes the virus as a MAPI worm that replies to all unread mails in your email message folders, and drops a backdoor Trojan. Symantec has posted a report at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.13312_at_mm.html. Thanks to Ralph, and again my deepest apologies. A couple of other things to note about this virus: --It is going to individuals and not to the listserves. It feeds off of unread messages. --The title of the message is usually one from some previous discussion and starts "Re: whatever the title of the discussion" --The body of the text quotes with the > mark some 10 lines of the earlier message --It has an attachment with a variety of names that you will find at the Norton site cited in Bob's note below --The last line of the message is (I place them in quotes but it doesn't have quotes) ">Take a look to the attachment" Note the strange usage of "to" in that sentence where as an English speaker would say "at" instead. Anyway, be careful about opening up attachment and look for that telltale ">Take a look to the attachment." best, ralph BTW it doesn't seem to affect Macs just PCs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Volin" <bobvolin_at_bestweb.net> > My apologies to all. I have to admit I would have bitten on this one. I did try to open the attachment but it just froze my machine. I had gotten something like it last week from someone else and I asked them to resend it but forgot all about it. On my Mac the icon looks like an incomplete AOL file.
