Craig said: "A prominent B.C. kayaking instructor and whitewater guide known to many as "Purple" Hayes died Thursday while kayaking on the Chilliwack River." A link to the updated article: http://www.vancouversun.com/ ---------------- Craig, I couldn't bring up your link to the death piece, as the news clips change daily. One of the links I had (and I'm not sure how different the info was from the Sun) can be found at: <http://www2.mybc.com/news/fs.cfm?id=882016> Like I said earlier, I'd never river paddle solo. Wavelength just released their latest issue, and chose to focus on "Inner Waters", which includes material covering whitewater kayaking. The deceased paddler, Rick Hayes, had an article in the current issue about kayaking the Chilliwack River. The article stated: "Never paddle alone". He closes the article by saying, "Who knows, maybe I'll see you out on the river some day -- make that the Chilliwack River!" A tragic death. On a happier note, PW'er Shawn Baker has a nice "fresh" piece on paddling on Flathead Lake in the current issue. And Ralph Hoehn has a neat perspective on "Folding Kayaks on Inner Waters." There is also a well written piece about paddling Skookumchuck Narrows (not for the faint at heart). BTW anyone out there in kayak land, in a couple of weeks are some huge tides here in the PNW. Anyone wanting to run any salt chuck rapids? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
