There's about 19 gm in each which can be squeezed under the tongue. They stay sealed and waterproof until the cap is twisted off. I've also used the GU gel type packets sold in some outdoor stores, or the PowerBar version. I can generally tell when things are beginning to go, and I take action immediately -- it takes 5 - 10 minutes for me to get back up to snuff. It's not an uncommon problem nowadays.. I know of a few others in this area with Type II and some Type I as well... It's a good idea to be aware of them so you can deal with it should a problem occur.
