--And the latter is, I think, what will happen sooner. I have a few
pfds for different waters. The HiFloats are for whitewater primarily. I am
now retiring one after something over 10 years. The foam within remains
solid, but the outer nylon covering is beginning to fall apart; discoloring
or fading in different parts, and it is now very easy to rip the stuff.
I am also discarding a Stearns vest I use for casual warmwater paddling
in the Pine Barrens of NJ and 6 years of age. Here, the outer cover is in
fine shape though there is one area beginning to rip. The foam in this one
is failing. As opposed to the HiFloat, the foam is a stack of very thin
sheets. Some of these, particularly around the edges, have somehow
flattened.

Do people use Formula 303 on their PFD's, nylon paddlefloats and does
it help (or hurt)? How about on their folding boat? Drybags? etc

Don't put it on wood boats!!!!!!! I've learned that the hard way. It will seep into the finish and the wood, and then if you go to refinish it will prevent the new finish from "sticking."

I have put it on rubber hatch covers, supposedly it's good for that. Don't know about cloth.

I use it on drysuit latex gaskets, airbags, plastic trim on car, tires, PFD's,
wife, children, etc. Naturally, I buy it by the gallon, which lasts a long
time.

I hope it does not make wife, children, etc. too slippery to handle...

IIRC, there are at least two kinds of 303, one for nonporous surfaces (Hypalon,
gel coat, etc.) and one for fabric. I have only used the first kind on:

latex seals (many years -- seems to have no ill effects)

Hypalon hull of my folding boat (many years -- makes it slippery until it
oxidizes (wears?) off -- duct tape won't stick to the Hypalon until it wears
off)

gel coat of fibreglass/polyester resin kayaks (couple years)

I bet the first kind is OK for "vinyl" products such as the material most
drybags are made of. These are almost always PVC, I believe. However, I would
use the "fabric" version on nylon goods (such as some lighter weight dry bags).

I use the regular 303 on my PFD, Spray Skirts and boats. I reapply
monthly during the summer. It seems to have significantly prolonged the
life of all treated items. It also improves one's roll making the boat
slip through the water without "catching" on the molecules.
