Join like minded people at the coolest place in Texas for Labor Day, 2001. The party starts Friday night (or earlier), August 31 at on Padre Island National Seashore, with the vanguard going down and blocking out places to camp on the beach. On Saturday and Sunday, we can paddle, play in the surf, sit around and tell lies about our prowess, hike, swim, fish. This was fun for sea kayakers as well as white water paddlers and SOT's. Your wives can shop till they drop back in Corpus and kids will find plenty to do as well. So bring the whole family. Then Monday we'll pack up and come home. We'll be camping on the beach on Padre Island National Seashore. This is primitive camping but only about 3 minutes from bathrooms with flush toilets and showers. We can drive back up to rest rooms and showers. The cost is $10 to come onto the beach but the pass is good for a year. You can always come back and paddle Laguna Madre like we did one Thanksgiving. (http://www.tamug.tamu.edu/paddler/Padre.htm) We'll bring our own food and libations. Also bring lots of shade - big umbrellas, sun shelters, tarps, parawing awnings, etc. And of course, bring all your camping gear, chairs, lifejackets, paddles, and water. We can go get water but it is easiest to have at least 5 gallon containers plus water to carry in your boats. Don't forget Hats, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, insect repellent. My friend Bob Griebel should soon have all the information from weather to the latitude and longitude of our proposed camp. I'll pass the URL on when it is up. And he can tell you how much fun he had as the only delegate from the DFW area. And for you non-Texans - you are welcome as well. This is about 30 minutes south of Corpus Christi. I'm looking for volunteers to go down early and stake out the real estate. Let me know if you can go down Thursday night or early in the day Friday. If you plan to come, please send me you name and number of people in your party. And maybe people planning to arrive early can give us all the descriptions of their vehicles and boats so we can find each other. If you look for kayaks on cars, you will seldom be wrong. :) Marilyn Kircus *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
