I have a wooden kayak that suffering around the cockpit rim during transit. I have a home made black nylon cover that fits tight as a drumskin. Not kidding, it takes quite a while to fight to get it on. There are no wrinkles on the cover once it is on. If I leave the kayak in the sun (roof top carrier), the varnish starts to peal off the edges of the rim of the cockpit. How are 'manufactured' covers made? Are they padded? Do they prevent this?
