A week ago my sweetie and I were out paddling) on the river in our wooden double sea kayak (a Pygmy Osprey). Every now and then, it would vibrate, and make a deep buzzing sound. (No, I am not making this up.) After the fourth or fifth vibration, we noticed it coincided with the horn blast from an upriver ship, no doubt bleating in the thin fog. The ship was out of sight behind some islands, and probably at least two miles away. The horn blast was actually quite faint. My conclusion was that the large open space connecting the two cockpits was resonating in sympathy with the note from the ship's horn. I guess I should not be surprised at this, although at first it was very eerie. Has anyone else had this happen to them? -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
