This the reply I got from Feathercraft ref who their target market is. I also asked how the Java would fare if I were to paddle with Pat Moss in her Lady Kahuna. ""So far as who will buy the Java? People who live in warm areas that want to travel with a kayak, folks heading to warm destinations who want a smaller package/lighter package to travel with, our dealer in NYC tells us that lots of people get started paddling there in sit on tops because they are "less threatening" then a sit inside kayak, so there is probably a market there for folks who like the idea of a sit on top. So far as keeping up with a Kahuna, should be close- the dimensions and our feel from paddling it suggest that it should keep up, it's long then the Kahuna and a bit wider, so it should even out.
