I need to ship a sea kayak from Rhode Island to Houston, Tx. Does anyone
have any ideas or experience?

www.forwardair.com

We've used them twice and everything went fine. They seem very reasonable.
It seems to be up to the shipping manager what counts as sufficient packing
in order to receive insurance. We had to box one kayak for it to be insured.
I'm not sure if the other kayak which came in cardboard was insured.

Forward Air is truck freight between airports (or near airports).

My husband can add more later if others don't.

Very carefully! I've heard horror stories about truck shipments of yaks. To
get mine from Canada we had it bubble wrapped in five layers and taped. Mark
it "fragile glass" and put a value of $10,000 on it. They are more likely to
handle with care and keep the forklifts away. That's about all I can suggest.
Good luck!
