My wife and I have been living here for just over a year and
have been thoroughly enjoying our exploration of the Persian Gulf, Straits
of Hormuz and the Arabian Sea in our Feathercraft K2. A friend looking at a
picture we had sent of the Musandam Peninsula declared that it looked like
Baffin Island - only hot, and he's right.
We find that the factor limiting our range is availability
of fresh water on shore - very little. A five day trip means that the kayak
is packed with water, with space for little else. I was wondering if the
well travelled participants in this group have any experience with small
scale stills, reverse osmosis units, or any other solution to the problem
short of Alain Bombard's solution of living on raw fish and sea water. A web
search turns up plenty of info relevant to industrial or community projects,
but not the scale we are interested in.

Hi Huw,

I was once looking for a solution to a similar problem--

You could check the Pur company's hand operated systems for
a marine environment. Not cheap, but maybe the best way to go.
I don't know about reliability. Their web site is
