At the very first pool session I had, my first few months on the water, after the wet exit I was taught the paddlefloat self-rescue. I've been practicing it with some regularity. My big problem is that I really have problems with lifting myself, without a stirrup, into my back deck. I was trying different methods in the pool two weeks ago and when I got home my left hip hurt like someone was twisting my left leg off. Well, it turns out I sprained my hip! I never even thought of such a thing, much less hear of it. I think I did it when I had my right leg on the paddle and was swinging my left leg up to the cockpit and I kind of lurched as I put too of my balance on the far side of the boat. I don't recall hurting but I always come away with bruises and such from practice. So, I'm off the water, all water, for the weeks it takes this to heal. I can't tell you how painful it becomes when I get a muscle spasm from overdoing things like raking leaves, as I tried today, or cleaning house, as I tried on Sat. Those pleasures of life will have to wait a while, too <G>.
