hi folks,

my husband often mentions wanting to fish in his boat. he paddles a
carolina, but we've also just purchased a used keowee II (which we call
"the couch") which would be great for fishing. he would be day tripping
only, and fishing in estuaries or on san pablo or tomales bay (we are in
northern calif.). for Christmas i'm thinking of getting him some basic
tackle, and i would welcome suggestions as to how to outfit him for his
first kayak-fishing trip. here is what i have come up with so far:

rod holder to be mounted on boat (clamps)
rod and reel (how long/heavy a rod?)
anchor for kayak
net
container (no big deal) with lid for fish
cooler for frosty lager (or, in the winter, coffee or hot tea) and snacks

do any of you fish from your boats? and are there forums for kayak fishing
that i need to know about? i've looked on a search engine but not found
anything so far.

best wishes to all,

kcd

KCD,

Let's see, you are "okay" with buying multiple boats.... you seem to
encourage him to go fishing.... you are actively supplying him with fishing
gear.... and you want to be sure that his Lager stays cold.

Will you marry me too??????? :-)

Although I am not a fisherman, I have heard that this web site gives a lot
of useful information. I have no knowledge about any of the things they sell
or how reputable they are, but at least it's a starting place for some info.

Before you buy the clamp on variety, take a look at the RAM
mount types as well.

> rod and reel (how long/heavy a rod?)
Whatever type of rod he can cast well while sitting. I grew up useing
bait casters, so I use a 6ft medium heavy two piece rod ($40) and an
Ambassador 5500 casting reel ($50).

> anchor for kayak
should be at least 5lbs, and should use an anchor
chain about 6ft long and at least 5lbs.

get the kind that folds up
