I have just ordered my first folding kayak and it
should arrive in two weeks.  I could wait for spring
to try it out-NOT!What do I need to know about cold
weather gear?  I live in northeastern Ohio. Thanks for

Hi Mary Beth,

You might check out a discussion from a couple of years back that's
on the PaddleWise website covering quite a few cold-weather paddling
issues.  Lots of war stories.

Also add flotation bags to your boat. Most foldables have inflatable
sponsons to aid in final tightening of the hull, but you still need bow
and stern bags and most manufacturers either omit them or have ones that
are too small.  Even with the Feathercraft seasock system additional air
bags are good insurance.

Of course one alternative to cold weather gear with a foldable is to fly
down to someplace like Florida.

Where there is a sucker called sandy kramer who, if you twist her arm, will 
probably be happy to host you.

sandy kramer with a small fleet..only foldable is a wee Puffin, though
