[Paddlewise] flashlights

On the Potomac River in Washington, DC the river police require that
kayakers have a flashlight handy that they can shine at oncoming boat
traffic. I've had this tiny light lashed to the inside of my deck bag that is
a joke. It fulfills the legal requirement of a light but I just didn't want
to put more money into yet another flashlight that I will hardly use. That
said, I found a light that is kind of nice and a decent price.
Most of what is "waterproof" costs twice the usual for lights without
that word. But I found this Eveready Sport Gear Pocket Flashlight that is
good to 30', according to the package. This guy was about $6 and that was not
"on sale" at Office Depot. Being a light freak I had to buy it. I like it.
The most challenging thing that will happen to it is rolling and rescues
practice. If it goes 30' down, that means it is lost so I'm not going to
worry about that part.
As I paddle both salt and fresh water I have to test everything in both
places but for $6, it may come in handy the next time I drop the key in an
unlit parking lot in the middle of nowhere.
