Kayakers who are doing safety escort work for swimmersare are instructed to
use straightforward everyday terms rather than bow, stern, deck, etc. A
kayaker assisting a swimmer tells the person in the water to grab on to
"front end" and does not say "bow" . . . not everyone knows nautical terms
or may get confused in an emergency.
