I was taught that paddlefloats, the inflatable kind, are attached to the deck behind, not in front of, the cockpit. You come up over the stern of your boat, then into the cockpit on your stomach, facing backwards, if I recall correctly. I have found they work great in calm seas, but are not so helpful when it's rough. I want to get my hands on a rigid one like Ken's, and see what its capabilities are. I'd love to ditch the inflatable one altogether.
