Screw the sponsons. Work on cloning manatees and use them as a flotation aid.

Probably not a good idea.....

I know one prominent Paddlewiser who was thrown a foot or two in the air by
a manatee. Her BOAT landed safely right side up.

Another well-known Paddlewiser, out paddling with her dog, was overturned by
a manatee. This person still swears that a huge alligator did it.

Yet another snow-bird Paddlewiser ran into a small shark. It scared him so
that he fell out of the BOAT, got stuck in the mud and had to be pulled out
by one of our Florida heroes.

I am sure that corrections to my remarks are forthcoming and will blow the
sponsons off the air. If not, I'll start telling spider in kayak stories.

I was charged by a manatee a few years ago. They look really placid till
they come at you at 20 miles an hour, tail slapping the water! This one
only lasted a few seconds and I was able to pass by as I was paddling
perpendicular to the charge.

Fantastic, exactly what I'd have said If I'd known.

Anyone stupid enough to go out in a 9-foot SOT with two small dogs on the
Estero River in Florida (I musta left my mind in Miami!) deserves to have the
tish scared out of her!!!

Fortunately I was very close to the river bank and stood there like those
cartoon figures with my legs shaking like reeds in the wind holding on to the
two doggies, just waiting for the gator to attack! I guess running wasn't
an option...too much vegetation behind me.

Shore didn't take me long to pattle back to the outfitters - twas then that
some locals told me they had just seen a mannattee. We'll never know.

stupid sandy wearing a sarong in sunny Miami
