Reading Chris Duff's On Celtic Tides, I was intrigued by the tethering system he used. If I understand it, he linked both his body and his paddle to his kayak with lines. Since he had done several long-distance ocean paddles before, I assume this precaution overcame the possible drawbacks. (I sometimes paddle in heavy surf and have deliberately not used a paddle tether and have never thought of tying myself to the kayak, although I understand the logic for a solo paddler on a long trip.) Has anyone else used Duff's system, or thought about it and rejected it?
