Hi, as I know is the ICOM M 15 no more on the market for over one year,
maybe you mean the new Icom GM 1500 E ? It is a kind of new M15, running the
GMDSS-standards, waterproof aso...
------
btw. I heard from a guy that Albrecht-accus are maybe the same like the ICOM
ones. I havnīt proved it yet.
Building an new NC-accu isnīt easy Ron, because you still need the box, it
must fit the VHF case. But if you open the old NC-box and replace the accus
themself... maybe maybe...
-----
In autumn (or earlier) the newest ICOM M 21 will come out, loks like a M1-V
but will be better, in some way. On the BOOT ICOM-Europe even donīt have
some english (or japanese) info-flyers. So, the shown was very very new.
------
I own the Icom M10-E, this is no longer on the market, too.
(

When I bought it, my favorite was the old M1, the new M1-V I donīt like. The M-3 is great in some way, also. But all the new ICOM handhelds got the Antenna right handed, the knobs left handed, what is a problem if you put the handheld in a waterproof bag. It is difficult to handle then, because most bags got the grip-in (through) for the thumbkin from the right side (where the Antenna is placed now). I got a VHF-bag from Ewa-Marine, where the backside of the bag is transparent (not clear), so I couldnīt turn it around. AQ got VHF-bags for right-handed Antennas, but much more expensive...

And all the new ICOM handheld (except the 1500) got their buttons bottom-placed. In my Opinion not ideal for a fast single-handed push with cold fingers. So, I bought the M-10, now this type had gone ...

The McMurdo (origin producer, together with Simrad) R2 Professional (also known as HT 50) is a great handheld VHF, but horrible expensive.

Hey, last year Simrad came out with the HD 52, based on the HT 50 (R2), but with an integrated DSC-C Controller and an IR-data-put-in (for MMSIīs and GPS data), so this would h
ad been the very first VHF handheld with an DSC Alarm (kind of EPIRB, but
based on VHF-frequency, channel 70, not running via satelite).
But except for Great Britain Simrad never got a permission for it. Because
theyīve forgotten that there is an international convention for no more new
DSC-C Controlled VHFīs. On the last BOOT they stopped showing the VHF. Seems
theyīve accepted it now.
But I canīt understand why they donīt put in a DSC-F Controller, this one is
allowed.
Whatīs the difference?
A C-Controller only sends a Alert-Signal, but canīt receive a confirmation
so it sends the Alert until the battery is low or the Signal is stopped
manuell. A F-Controlled Alert will be stopped after receiving confirmation,
so the Channel is no more "blocked" (busy) with this special alarm.
I canīt explain the whole DSC (digital selective call) System here. In
German I could....

OK; nice to know. Thats enough.

bye
Jochen
