As a satisfied customer for years now, and also someone who is interested in safety issues... I would like to say that in the Portland Oregon area the one retailer I do business on a regular basis is Alder Creek Kayak...and to my perception they are very interested in having a safety conscious customer base...this is good ethics and good business. As far as I can tell they are excellent in both arenas. If most retailers are as they are, the retailers are not the problem. In truth, I believe that adults need to have some common sense...and most of paddling safety boils down to common sense and a little effort to become educated...about the risks and ways to minimze risk while still enjoying the sport. Many paddlers have pretty low level skills, but in the right waters they can still paddle safely, if they know how accidents usually happen.
