I've saved an old street directory and am drawing in a compass rose to the appropriate pages, taking them out of the book and laminating them. Details such as whether beaches are sandy or rocky, presence of small creeks and bomboras, and use of familiar place names are helpful and can be missing or hard to read on naval charts.
