A Hennessy Hammock might make finding jungle campsites easier. I have one I
love, but I would invest in the larger rain fly. I had been warned the
standard one is a bit small and it is. They sell a larger fly I believe.

Can you think of any way the Hennessy Hammock could be adapted to a self-standing tent? Since it is a bottom entry tent, I imagine one would have to make a side opening and attach velcro.

I've been thinking that with two lightweight aluminum tent poles inserted across each other like a dome tent might work.

anybody fiddled about with this?

Sandy --

Check out the Hennessy Hammock web page at:

http://www.hennessyhammock.com/use_as_a_tent.htm

to see a picture of it used as a tent. I've never tried to set mine up
like that, so I can't say how functional it is.

Cheers,

Matt

I bought the Lawson because it can be used as both, although it weighs 5
pounds! Ugghhh!

Thanks, didn't think of looking there. I do happen to have Leki Trekking Poles....but don't usually take them in my kayak!

When coastal camping, and when permissible, I like to sleep on the sand - the nearest bushes are usually mangroves with vicious skeeters.

However, I'll be camping with the Florida Pop-up Campers at Jonathan Dickinson State Park (FL) on Jan 25-27 and we're in the highland grove area. I'll take the HH (and the Lekis) and play around with it.

I was delighted to see the photo of the fella in LA who tied off the hammock above water in a bayou, then paddled his "canoe" and climbed into the tent, tying off his boat to the hammock. Bet a dollar that the "canoe" is a Sport Puffin folding kayak.

Substitute paddles. Two half-paddles might be too short, but
if you have a spare, you're ok. Driftwood or deadfall could do
as well.

Now that I know that the hammock can be used as a tent, I kinda regret
buying a solo tent before Christmas (good sale price, though).
