Hello Wilky,
Which part of Tassie are you in, on the Derwent, or the Tamar estuary? Those
whirlpools sound like fun, in a way.
I'm in Melbourne, and there's quite a few stitch and glue boats in the VSKC
fleet now. You should come over and check them out. Last Sunday we had a
Cape Charles, a Patuxent, a North Bay large or high volume, and two Seguins
along on the regular monthly club dawdle paddle. They have collectively
taken on the name of the "Kindling Club", as the club President once
commented that he liked wooden boats along on trips, they kept the campfire
going all night.

Peter, et all.
I am on the Tamar. In the north of the island
Most of the people I paddle with have the Cape Charles (CLC) kayaks.

A funny story, we were paddling in the south, the weather was quite rough
and there was an 8-10ft swell. One of the guys in a Cape Charles came down
the face of a roller and buried the nose of his kayak up to the coaming into
the back of the wave in front. This stopped the kayak and then the following
wave rolled over the top of the back of the kayak. He was totally submerged
up to his waist. The look on his face was hilarious, then he popped back up
to the surface like a cork.
Was a good 4 day trip.
Cheers
Wilky
