Believe me, I've been there. Anyone who has jumped in and tried swimming in ice cold water with minimal clothing knows you don't get very far; and if safety is near and you make it out of the water, it does take awhile to recover. It's like touching a hot stove: you might do it once, but never again--unless of course you're a member of the Polar Bear Club!
