My paddle leash attaches to my wrist or under my deck lines. I don't usually keep it attached to me unless things are a lot rougher than they were. It is easy to keep holding on to the paddle--just takes practice to make it second nature. I think I just need to practice more to make certain that I always keep a hand on my boat, or a foot inside of the cockpit.
