Gday all,
On the subject of website and the inside passage....... we (2 aussies) are paddling from Bellingham to Juneau this coming summer.
Our website is http://www.ozwebdesign.com.au/adventure2002 we will update it regularly with digital photographs and text. It will also include a useful links section (which will include Paddlewise, and a special acknowledgement section, listing those people who have provided us with helpful advice).
We have been in regular contact with Garth and Kevin and we plan to meet around Prince Rupert....... we will be heading North and they will be heading South.
The kayaks (Pittarak Expedition Sea Kayaks) will arrive by sea freight in Vancouver on the 15th May, we arrive same day and clear them through customs.... stay in Vancouver a couple of days to taste the beer and buy some kit. Then we will head to Bellingham...... to talk to the locals... buy some kit.... more talking with the locals... buy some more kit and then start paddling about May 22.
Maybe someone on Paddlewise who lives in Vancouver could help us..... we need a mailing address so that the freight company can mail a "Notice of arrival"... in other words, a letter informing us that the container has been unpacked and our kayaks are ready to be collected. We would be very grateful to anyone who is willing to help us out.
I have been on Paddlwise for about 18 months... just reading advice... it has been great!
We are beginner kayakers and it is very exciting for us to attempt this trip.... we have learnt so much from so many different sources... especially from a few people in the area.
Our website is http://www.ozwebdesign.com.au/adventure2002
I am still in Gloucester, Australia.... my boat is being built this week and then I will head to Chamonix, France to do some skiing until the end of the season.
I hope you enjoy the website.
Kind regards,
Peter Relf.

Thank you Doug. I knew that even before you got your feet - or your
head? - wet again, your spirit would once again dance on the waves. All it
took was a bit of wind to draw you out.

Thanks Melissa (and Sandy, and Henry). Sorry for the poor prose - was a
late-night-can't-sleep post.

As it turns out, my Victoria friends Garth and Kevin (two of the coolest
Kiwi's I know) left for Alaska on Sunday. It was still blowing hard (like
50-knots hard) but I imagine they set off in the lee of the lower
Vancouver Island here. At least the wind was on their tail. They are going
to Alaska via kayak on the inside route, then turning around and coming
back via the outside route in the same kayaks. The rest of us office-bound
work-a-day slobs can follow them on their web site. It is a nice site,
with some nice pics. A number of us Paddlewisers have spent time with
these two guys, training them, training alongside them, giving them
advice, and providing moral support as well as practical help. I'd
recommend a look:

Peace and good paddling to you all,
Doug
