You mention that Jamie applied 6 years ago for the Grand Canyon permit, and that the trip is this year. I thought the waiting list was about 20 years...... how are you able to get it in only 6??????? To receive a regular permit for the Grand Canyon the wait is about 16 years. You can apply to receive a cancelled permit at anytime. However, if you are on the wait list for a permit you have preference over someone who is not on the wait list. The longer on a wait list the better preference you have for a cancelled permit. Once you take a permit your name is removed from the wait list. If you want to do the Grand Canyon put your name on the list now, you will have years to decide before a permit comes up. > One question. Hi, The reason is that as your name climbs the list (year after year) you are offered the opportunity to take the starting dates of people who cancel their trip for whatever reason ...... if you decline the date then the next person below you gets the opprtunity and so on....... the waiting list is apparently about 12 years.... but you get the chance to go well before then as there are many circumstances where people would be forced to cancel there trip as you can imagine. regards, Peter Relf. mzuschlag_at_attbi.com wrote: To receive a regular permit for the Grand Canyon the wait is about 16 years.
