        I've heard of some paddlers around here who have filled in gouges and
deep scratches using the poly sticks (P-sticks) sold for the same purpose for
downhill ski soles.  You melt and drip into the gouge, or iron it in.  Seems
to me it would take a fair degree of craft skill....
