Yeah Niels, it seems that these rule apply to a kayak going more that 2 miles from firm land. I'm still waiting for firm information and will probably have to write to FFCK which is French for kayak federation. Like you I am still fuming about some of their rules. I just found out that a foldable is (maybe) not allowed as seagoing kayak as it is not rigid enough. How many French tupperwares have crossed the Atlantic, I wonder? I have just slipped over the edge into the no legislation/let nature cull the stupid ones brigade. More news soon, in the meantime, I recommend not understanding the language or the regulations if you go to kayak in French waters. Perhaps we should organise a protest paddle of foldables around French territorial waters!
