Oh, well the forecast is for semi-crummy weather this year's race, this sunday, april 26 in Boston. If anyone on the list is doing the Run of the Charles this year, and you see me say hi. I should be very easy to spot. I'll be in the front seat of a 2 man outrigger canoe doing the 6 mile race. I would be really surprised if more than one 2 man outrigger showed up. The website for the race is http://www.crwa.org/rotc/rotc.html There are some pictures from last year at http://www.crwa.org/rotc/2001/photos.html The pictures mentioning Herter Park are of the 6 mile race. (not 6K as one caption says). I'm intrigued how we're going to maneuver the 26 foot outrigger in the traffic of the 6 mile race... The Run of the Charles is made up of 6 different races a 26 mile professional canoe race (with $16,500 in prize money), a 24 mile relay (with teams of 8 to 10 paddlers), a 19 mile race, a 9 mile race, a 7 mile 4 man outrigger race, and the 6 mile race. All 6 races are started such that they all finish at about the same time. The first boats should hit the finish line at about 1:30. kirk *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
