Some of the best information I got on my Florida trip came from an Ex-Floridian who now lives several states away. My other best sources were a couple of Floridians who knew the area I was going, but didn't live close enough to have (probably) met the geographic criteria. The database approach would not have helped me - the posting I made was a tremendous help.

The issue of where you live versus paddling areas you have valuable knowledge of are unrelated. I hope Ralph doesn't mind me using him as an example, but he's one that we can all relate too.... if he moves to Nevada or even off the continent, I'm still going to be asking him for advice about paddling New York. Would the database suggest I contact him?

The only relation that holds water geographically is that of providing a hot shower, place to sleep etc.

Rick

Hi Rick & Paddlewise. Yes you're right, but I think listing someone who has
knowledge of an area in a database, even out of date is still useful.
Perhaps you know that Ralph knows all the nooks and crannies around New
York, but a new boy like me doesn't. Someone listed geographically must
still be contacted by the person who wishes to travel and at worst would
receive a reply saying "sorry, I don't live there anymore, but I can give
you info on......".
Cheers,
Kevin.
