Hello PeterO:
Re Q2, the Pittarak Pump outlet leak.
You could try filing out a V groove in any cracks in the glass job, sanding,
masking and cleaning the area, and applying Sikaflex. This would give a
flexible seal. Nadgee bulkheads are installed with a glass job on one side,
and Sikaflex on the other. Seems a good idea. If the glass develops a leak,
there is still a flexible watertight joint, (I hope!).
Or, sand it, and apply more chopped strand mat and resin.
I wonder why the outlet was passed through the day hatch bulkhead, and not
straight out through the deck above the cockpit. You could re-site the
outlet. Leaks into the cockpit don't matter as much.
You could also take the hand pump out altogether, plug all holes, and fit a
foot or electric pump. The only advantage of a deck mounted hand pump that I
can think of, is that another paddler can operate it for you. That could be
handy in a bad rescue situation, if you are too hypothermic or seasick to
operate your own foot pump, for example. Are there other advantages of deck
mounted hand pumps?
