Hi Rick,

I think you make some very good points, but I didn't take it to mean that
estabishing this data base would mean that it would no longer be ok just to
write the typical notes about heading somewhere and wanting kayaking info. I
think it will just serve as an added way of approaching the issue, eg if
it's a last minute thing, or if there's someone specific you want to ask info
from rather than addressing the whole list. So don't worry about having put
me to sleep. Actually, it makes me want to meet you more than we wrote about
when you helped me with the tent database. Get that second boat soon and
make sure it will fit tall people. :) Or else come up to NY and i'll lend
you a boat.

Hank

I'm in Rick's camp in this one. I have many times hooked up electronically
with paddlers in other areas ahead of a visit to get the lowdown ... and been
on the other end a few times, also.

I prefer the informal method, rather than a formal spreadsheet method. I share
Melissa's concerns re: privacy. In addition, I'm pretty fussy about who I
paddle with, and sometimes I might opt out of paddles if I decide I don't like
the way a trip is looking.

OTOH, I have been the grateful recipient of much good info from this list (and
Wavelength), so I'd say leave it like it is. It ain't broke.

But for one lurker to contact another lurker would be more problematic.
We had a great afternoon on Flathead Lake, but if I hadn't posted a few
times, you might not have known you were within 30 miles of another
Paddlewiser on your trip last summer.

I also agree with the need for security of personal phone numbers and
addresses, though.

The nicest thing about a list similar to the Warm Showers list is that
it would encourage lurkers to list their own contact info, in order to
view others'. (I would venture to guess that while lurkers outnumber
regular posters on the list 6:1, regular posters probably far outnumber
lurkers on the Who's Who list.)

Looks as if Rick and I are on the same page.....i was hosted by a lurker who
took me paddling on Morro Bay in CA....she still doesn't post, but I hope
she's still lurking...she prepared a delightful picnic lunch.

as for the rest of it...i've already forgotten what a 1, 2 or 3 tier is!!!

That completely sums it up. I don't think it could have been said any
better.

I second the idea of forgetting about a specific list and updating the list
and so on.

Right now it works very well.

I am willing to try to help, lend kayaks, rent kayaks or paddle with
somebody coming to Mexico that sends an open request.
I am free to reply if my time allows and I am in no obligation to do it
because I am in a list. It is my pleasure and IŽll try to make it pleasant
for the visitor, trying to exchange experiences and learn form his/her
skills and share mine.

The good will and passion for our sport will guarantee that there is always
somebody available.

Best Regards,

Rafael.

Rick, we are almost on the same page, but I was not clear. I imagined that
people would state their knowledge of different regions that might be of
interest to Paddlewisers, but must have assumed that everyone could read my
mind. Sorry.

Thats the important thing really isn't it? If a general message gets a
response from anyone concerned thats fine,
Kevin.
