Sad coment: Years ago William Nealy penned a cartoon about the loss of community between paddlers. The first picture labeled yesterday (I think) shows two paddles who were driving from opposite directions on a 4 lane highway. Upon seeing each others kayaks they slammed on their brakes jumped out of their cars and ran to each other crying "brother!" The next picture show two paddlers passing each other on a two lane highway without so much as a glance. This picture was labeled today or now or something like that. Sunday afternoon I headed down to Seward to camp and paddle the next day. I passed at least a dozen vechiles with seakayaks on top. I waved at each but not a one waved back or even made eye contact. Sadly for some community is not a word associated with sea kayaking.
