I've experimented over the years with stretching the limits of my Burley pull-behind kid trailer (one year I had 3 little kids in it, two bags of ice, and a bike strapped on the back!). Last summer I left the sides folded down, and placed two of those simple gray-foam kayak racks in the front and back of the Burley. Then, I put my Romany Explorer on it. It fit very nicely between the Burley wheels. As my Burley also has the manufacturer modification of the added third wheel to turn it into a stroller, the Burley as such functioned as a stable tricycle under the kayak. It was really easy to walk around using the front handle of the kayak to pull from. Now, to modify this idea further so that you could actually attach it to your bike, you would need to extend the pipe on the Burley that attaches to the back frame of the bike (to give proper clearance of the front half of the kayak). I believe this would be pretty easy to do it you have (or you know someone with) some! simple skills. Call Burley about the idea and maybe they would build you a prototype extension to pull a kayak. (Don't forget to make wide turns!) Good luck.
