The urban legend that I heard about the color red and fire engines is that it is difficult to see at night. Yellow (chartreuse) is easier to see at night. The trucks began to appear sporting that odd shade of yellow. When it comes to night/ low light visibility I rely on SAR tape. I added a 1 inch stripe down the entire length of both sides of my yellow Avocet as well as on the carry toggles. Walmart now carries 12 packs of 2" x 4" SAR tape for $7.00.
