You guys are all talking about the padle standing still in the water and the boat moving and that is also what I tell my students but, the eskimo padle has a completly different form and modern padles, here the water easely moves past the padle it is this movement (slippage) thatproduces the propulsion. I do not quite understand it but it must be simmular to swimming where you maintain a space between your fingers where the water can flow trough.
