A paddling buddy I used to race with and I are planning to take another kayak trip in Utah, or somewhere nearby, in October (when the air has cooled , the water is still warm and most of the other boaters have left). We have up to two weeks and tend to crank out the miles since his winged paddle has only two speeds, stopped and fast. Last time we went we averaged 27.5 miles a day (max. 34.5 one day) going to the end of every arm from Bullfrog to below the Escalante (including every arm of the Escalante) and back again one November. We loved the scenery (except the reservoirs bathtub ring). Does anyone have any suggestions for a stretch of river or reservoir with great scenery, a minimum of official hassles-like reservations required--and no serious rapids that can't be easily portaged (because my friend is not a WW paddler and uses a winged paddle).
