Does anybody have information on an English alternative spelling for KAYAK?

The word in question is KYAK. I think it might also be the primary Finnish
word for the English "kayak."

I have found it listed in an unabridged Websters Dictionary (c. 1964), and
a (abridged) Websters New World Distionary (c. 1976)

Both are hard copies, and list the word as a noun, with the meaning given,
"Same as kayak."

When doing a Google search, I come up with several pages of results for
"kyak," from private messages on Usenet to business sites. One Usenet post
was a reply correcting the spelling of the original poster and his message.
I know that in the past I have often mistyped the word, that is, meant to
type "kayak," but instead typed "kyak." But throughout the years I have
assumed that both were rally correct, the spelling "kayak" being the more
prevalent. Many online dictionaries do not give a meaning for "kyak." But
since I have two home dictionaries with a meaning, there must be some
history to what may be a "less popular/ less used" spelling.

I don't mean to start a debate here, but I simple can not find sources that
give me the entire story of the word. This is truthfully a minor issue, but
it unfortunately annoys the heck out of me. I need to "get a life" perhaps?

Sorry, old chap. It is "kajakki" in Finnish. We always do everything the
hard way - especially spelling...

Thanks!

Help me out then with the following:

KYAK-TAUSTATIETOJA JA HISTORIIKKIA

KYAK l. Kuopion yliopiston ampujakilta on vuonna 1991 perustettu

ampujakilta, jonka jäseniksi voivat liittyä kaikki ammunnasta tai

metsästyksestä kiinnostuneet Kuopion yliopiston henkilökuntaan tai

opiskelijoihin kuuluvat henkilöt ikään tai sukupuoleen katsomatta. Kilta

toimi aina kevääseen 1994 aktiivisesti. Saimme rakennettua talkootyöllä ja

varoja keräämällä ilma-ase ampumatilat sekä Snelmanian kellaritiloihin että

Canthian kirjaston takana oleviin varastotiloihin. Lahjoitus- ja jäsenmaksu

varoin olemme pystyneet hankkimaan killalle ratakaukoputken, ilmakiväärin

sekä ilmapistoolin.

Ilmakiväärin hankinnan mahdollisti ORION OY:n merkittävä tuki, josta

kiitokset myös täältä webbisivun kautta

Geesh, am I dumb for assuming this is Finnish?!! Above taken from

http://www.uku.fi/jarjestot/kyak/tausta.htm (which I think is a Finnish

web site). Maybe their not even speaking about kayaks here??? Might be

something to do with bioteknik or medicine?

Kyak is a former shooting society of the Kuopio University. The name comes
from the first letters of the name: Kuopion Yliopiston Ampuja Kilta/ the
Kuopio University Shooting Guild.

Hmm.... If that sounded funny, try to spell all the words and pronounce them
fast ;-)
