[Paddlewise] Greenland paddling stroke

I actually just finished a GP last week, and have used it twice. By the end
of the first day, I was able to paddle without too much flutter, but I
wonder if any of you habitual users could verify some initial observations:

1. I have only heard the canted stroke described, never demonstrated, but I
found intuitively that if I applied pressure to the paddle shaft with the
"pulling" hand from the fingertips (really the pads of the fingertips), I
had much better control over the paddle.

2. This has been mentioned before, but the more blade I put in the water,
the better control of the flutter I had.

3. Towards the end of the second long-ish day, I found my efficiency with
the paddle plunging; maybe I was using different muscles than I normally do
paddling, and those were getting tired, but I found myself over-using my
shoulders and consequently slowing down considerably.

4. What sort of stroke cadence should one expect to maintain for a normal
cruising speed (with a group)?

cheers
Severn Clay
