> As I have read over and over, people like Chuck can insure a kayak > for $20, but when we inquired in Texas it had to be insured the same > as a '18 foot boat, a motor boat, they didn't know how to insure > it as anything else. It ended up costing us about $130 a boat, > which just wasn't worth it. When I had my boat stolen some time back I was upset to lose my favorite boat, but figured my homeowners insurance would cover it. So I checked with my friendly insurance agent only to learn that "recreational" watercraft was not covered! Not only that, but even if it was, apparently "tools" you use for work are not covered either, and since I work on and off on the weekends as a kayak instructor it means that my boats and kayaking equipment are not covered regardless! Who knew? And the punch line to this whole story is that my friendly insurance agent is my father!!!!! It's not like he doesn't know I do a lot of kayaking and stuff. Anyway, I found out that to cover my equipment would, over the years, cost more then it's worth. So it's still not covered. But at least now I know.
