Many of you have posted that you either can't get kayak insurance or that
you can, but it is quite expensive.

I have MEEMIC homeowners insurance. MEEMIC stands for Michigan Educational
something or other, and is available only to Michigan Education Association
members, I believe. This narrows the availability quite a bit, but maybe
other state's education associations have a similar insurance plan. If
you're a member of one, check it out.

My kayak is listed (model and serial number, as well as cost, $2,664) on
the declarations page of the policy. The category it falls under is "Items
not otherwise classified, include bicycles, hunting, fishing, bowling,
skiing, other sports equipment or supplies, and hearing aids."

The deductible is the same as my homeowners policy, $250. The annual
premium for this particular line item of the policy (my kayak being the
only item listed) is $13.
