Rick, A couple of ideas in the Hilton Head Area, though on the mainland. Point your browser at mapquest and look up Bluffton, SC. Bluffton is an artsy old town that's pretty neat. It's on the mainland inland of Hilton Head and has a floating public dock that would make a great launch site. Another possibility is Brighton Beach which is on the same river but a little closer to the sound behind Hilton Head. Another nice floating public dock but exposed to wind out of the east and the long fetch from the sound. I haven't kayaked there but have spent a good bit of time in the area scouting it. The Bluffton landing was a major Civil War landing. Mind the tides there as the water really moves at full flood and ebb (flat water though). There are literally thousands of places to go in the Low Country area. Stay off Hilton Head though. I think all the access areas make you pay. Can't help ya with park type camp sites, though I know of a commercial campground on Hilton Head. Dave G.
