Just a follow up note on the kayaker that drowned off Trial Island near Victoria earlier this year. The coroners report is in. The relevant findings are as follows: No PFD Lots of clothing, but none designed for immersion (at the autopsy, the clothing on the upper body weighed in at over 12 kgs) Blood alcohol level was between .23% and .41% In other words, this death had little or nothing to do directly with kayaking, and had everything to do with poor and impaired judgment. The gentleman could as easily been in a motorboat, car, or hiking and would likely have met with injury.
