The main destination around Savannah is Tybee Island, a typical beach resort town. Kayakers prefer to put in on the river and paddle over to Little Tybee (which is actually bigger, I think), which has miles of creeks to explore. It's possible to circumnavigate Little Tybee, coming back on the ocean side. That side can be a bit busy at high tide, as there are several bar breaks offshore and a decent beach break as well. Best plan is to check in with Sea Kayak Georgia, on the right as you drive onto the island, for advice and maps. Accommodations tend to be a little high on Tybee, although you'll be there before they ratchet up for spring break. The only campground AFAIK is very pricey, $25 for a tent spot. The nearest state park is Skidaway Island, don't know anything about it. Here's a link to all GA state parks: http://gastateparks.org/ Also, check with Mike Moody at Altamaha Wilderness Outpost in Darien about places in the Altamaha River basin (http://www.broadriveroutpost.com/). Lots of swamp paddling that you'll be there in the perfect time of year for. They can do a shuttle for you. Email me if you have specific questions.
