Thanks to everyone who answered my questions regarding gloves and cuffs.

I visited the local industrial supplier on Saturday and bought a pair of very over sized rubber gloves that come to just shy of my elbows. These are very thick versions of dish washing gloves and they work great. My hands stay warm simply from the fact that fresh cold water does not come in contact with my hands. The paddle still spins nicely in my hands and the extra large fit limits that clammy sort of feel. I think I will use this system for quite a while.

I found that a 12 hour fitting of beer bottles into the wrist cuffs of the paddle jacket worked perfectly. I can probably avoid cutting the latex. (note that only freshly emptied beer bottles seem to work. Those drained a few months ago seem to have no effect on the cuffs. This demonstrates that beers the night before paddling can improve your paddle the day following).
