I would just love to paddle Chicagof if it weren't for all the really scuzzy
places I would have to create a campsite. Is this just my imagination? Are
there really good high/dry campsites along the route? I'm a veteran of Prince
William Sound, the Charlottes and Patagonian Chile, and while the nature is
magnificent, camping right in a swamp is never magnificent.

Camping has to be part of the program, even if it's every other night while
hotel-hopping on the coast of Maine or on chickees in the Everglades. The
Exumas, Baja, Fiji and especially Scandanavia have consistently great
camping. As a backpacker, I love Alaska and British Columbia. But as a sea
kayaker, I have this vision of piling up driftwood to stay out of the soup
while trying to get a night's sleep.
