I find the occassional tinkering (and swearing at) of a retractable skeg part of the game. Like any mechanical device that changes the characteristics of a hull so effeciently comes with a price. In certain extreme conditions the looseness of a rockered hull is nice. we make, sell and give skegged customers skeg tools. they're thrift store table knifes ground into a hook, similar to a climber's nut tool. These work well at cleaning the skeg box of grit. The mechanics that run the skeg are other story. I'm not a huge fan of the bungie system and the wire system is a t better. I'm actually working on a new system that is pretty fun and challenging. we'll see. steve Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe N 45º 39' 47" 250 NE Tomahawk Isle Dr. W 122º 36' 16" Portland, OR 97217 Web: www.aldercreek.com Phone: 503.285.0464 Email: aldercreek_at_qwest.net *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
